Bradley Straatsma Biography

Bradley R. Straatsma is Professor of Ophthalmology Emeritus at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Straatsma commenced faculty appointment at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1959. He was appointed Professor in 1962, Director of the Jules Stein Eye Institute in 1964, and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology in 1968 until 1994. In 2002, Dr. Straatsma graduated from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law (J.D., Cum Laude).

Dr. Straatsma has served in numerous leadership positions including President of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology, President of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, Chairman of the American Board of Ophthalmology, President of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology, President of the American Ophthalmological Society, Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Ophthalmology, and President of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis. Committed to world ophthalmology, Dr. Straatsma is currently a Member of the International Council of Ophthalmology and President of the International Council of Ophthalmology Foundation.

Dr. Straatsma has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards in ophthalmology. He has delivered more than 50 distinguished lectures and is author of over 500 scientific publications.
