Mark Gillies is a retinal specialist who also conducts synergistic clinical and laboratory research projects aimed at identifying better treatments of retinal vascular disease. His lab has particular interests in laboratory modeling of the blood-retinal barrier, proteomic analysis of retinal conditions and how existing treatments (steroids, laser) for retinal disease work. His clinical research group has been a leading pioneer of the use of steroids to treat retinal vascular disease. Mark Gillies is a scientific advisor to a number of international academic and industry sponsored groups conducting clinical trials of new treatments for retinal vascular disease.
